Amanda Seyfried flew out to LA to audition for Mean Girls. Initially, she was reading for the part of Regina George, but the filmmakers eventually decided on someone else. Amanda says that apart from Lindsay Lohan, Blake Lively was also in the room, auditioning for the role of Karen. Later on, Seyfried was told that she would fit the part of Karen better, and she agreed, despite being surprised.

Amanda Seyfried thinks she got the role because she used to act as the peacemaker during her real high school years. She also shares that she used to stay out of drama, and that’s what helped her play one of the main characters in Mean Girls. Mean Girls came out back in 2004, and Blake Lively acted in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants in 2005 and Gossip Girl in 2007. In 2019, Mean Girls casting director Marci Liroff said that the filmmakers had decided to keep looking for someone who would embody Karen better. Even though they liked Amanda Seyfried as Regina, film producer Lorne Michaels later suggested that they cast her as Karen. Needless to say, the rest is history, and now both actresses are insanely successful in their careers.
